Rockies Vs. Giants
Starters: Jorge De La Rosa
Today I got to go down to the first row thanks to Robert who had an extra ticket by him for this game. During Batting Practice I did get one ball from the Giants it was a Ground Rule Double off the warning track.
Despite the rain over night the hosers still need to do their thing. The tarp they cover the infield with may of help their job security for the day.

Jorge throws first pitch to the Giants Aaron Rowand for a first pitch single. He would later be thrown out at second on a Aubrey Huff hit to The Deuce. Which should of been a double play. Thanks for the missed call Ump. Karma would then catch up with Huff as he was thrown out at 3rd by a throw from Cargo from left hit by buster Posey. The Giants would score a run this inning . Freddy Sanchez scored the run he was walked by De La Rosa and advanced to on Huff single and scored by Posey’s hit. The Rox went down in order in the bottom of the 1st. Dex K’d, Herrera Pop out to 3rd and Cargo grounded out to second.
Aubrey Huff thrown out at 3rd.
In the second The Rox came back with vengence The Deuce lead off with a doubl, Helton got hit by a pitch The Deuce scored on a seth Smith single. (1-1) Ty Wiggington was the 4th batter to head to the plate in the second and he hit his first Rockies Homerun which also was his 1000th career hit.

Dan caught the Wiggington HR. It was Dan’s 79th HR ball in Coors.
The Rockies would send 10 batters to the plate in the inning
After the Giants sat down in order in the Top off the 3rd. Helton hit a lead off double. He would then be stranded at 3rd after he advanced from a Seth Smith Sac Fly to center.

Giants starter Matt Cain only lasted 4 2/3 innings with a 100 pitches letting up 4 runs on 6 hits. Giants relief pitcher Dan Runzler heading to the mount in the 5th.He would then strike out Jorge De La Rosa for the 3rd out of the inning. The Rockies would score 2 runs in the inning (7-1) Rockies.
The Giants would the score a run in the 6th (7-2). Sanchez would lead off with a single he would advance to 2nd on a baulk. He would then advance to third on a Huff flyout. and score on a Posey ground out to The Deuce.
The Rockies would score 4 more runs in the 7th inning The Deuce lead off the inning with a single he advanced to 3rd on a bad throw for a pick off attemp at 1st. Then scored on a Wiggington ground out. Ryan Spilbourghs would pitch hit for De La Rosa and hit a 3 run HR scoring 3 runs.(10-2) Rockies that is all that the Rockies would need and avoided the sweep by the Giants. The Rockies are now 3 games ahead of the Giants in the National League West. De La Rosa pitched 7 innings. He was replace by Betancourt in the 8th and Huston Street came in the game in the 9th. It wasn’t a save situation but he was brought out for some work since he has not pitched in 3 days.

Huston Street strikes out Pat Burell to end the game. The Rockies are now 13-5. They are now heading out on the road for 3 games in Florida against the Marlins and then 3 in Chicago against the Cubs. They will return home to Coors on the 29th against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Like always the hosers were there!!!!!
Behind the Rockies Dugout during the National Anthem
Jason Hammel and Chris Iannetta heading to the field
Rockies taking the field for the last game of this homestand
Jason Hammel throwing first pitch to the Dodgers Rafael Furcal. Furcal would get out, then Casey Blake hit a single and Andre Either would hit into a 3,6,3 double play a unconventional DP but executed perfectly by Helton and the Deuce.
The Rockies had a very aggresive first inning dispite Fowlers groundout to Dodgers first baseman James Loney.
Seth Smith was batting second this game
in this photo he takes a pitch for a ball, But a few pitches later he rips one to the outfield for a double.
Smith rounding first and heading for second. Cargo hit a Double of his own scoreing Smith for the first run of the game. After The Deuce popped out to short, Helton walked and Lopez hit in Cargo from second this brought the Rox up 2-0. Lopez has been a great addition to the team so far batting .364 at this point with a homerun. We will miss Barmes but I think this may pan out for the best.
Cargo taking a pitch for a strike
Seth Smith scoring the Rox first run after the Cargo Double.
Jose Lopez during his at bat in the 1st inning.
The Dodgers Matt Kemp lead off the second inning with that very Familiar 6,3 groundout. Followed by a James Loney solo Homerun that was hit one section to the left from where I was standing. After Uribe and Paul both GO I headed up to my seat in 307.
The Rox second started with a Chris Iannetta walk followed by a Jason Hammel Sac Bunt.
The inning ended by a Smith and Fowler each striking out.
The Dodgers would score 3 runs in starting off with a Rod Barajas HR which was caught by Dan. Nice Catch! Hey Rod Barajas remember that time you were a Met!!! Then got 2 more on a few walks and hits. Hammel had his notorious bad inning but got out of it a lot better then in the past the Dodgers were up 4-2 and then the Rox came up for the bottom half of the 3rd.
With Cargo leading off with a walk and a Tulo’s first hit that was not a HR Todd Helton stepped to the plate he hit a 3 run HR. that bounce off the top of the auxilary scoreboard in rightfield. Scoring 3 runs and the Rox taking the lead back from the Dodgers 5-4 Rockies.
Fans reacting to the Helton Homer as it bounces past them. You can see the ball over the first row third seat in.
After Hammel faced 4 batters in the forth the Rox came up and scored 2 more in the bottom of the 4th. On the Deuces third homer of the season and third consecutive game with a HR. 7-4 Rox.
The rest of the game was somewhat uneventful with only the Dodgers scoring 1 in the 8th. Hammel pitched 5 letting up 6hits, 4 runs, 2 homers, walking 3 and striking out 2.
Morales came in for the 6th and 7th. Facing 7 batters striking out 2 in the 2 innings. Lindstrom pitched the 8th letting up a DB to Kemp who later came around to score. 7-5 Rox which would end up being the final score.
Street closed the game in the ninth, letting up 2 basehits to Barajas and Carrol. He then retired Furcal with a flyout to left and ended the game with 2 incredible strike outs. First to Dodgers pinch hitter Gimenez and then Either for the final out of the game.
Huston Street strikes outs Andre Either for the final out of the game.
Rockies win 7-5 and are now 4-1 on the season. After this game they headed to Pittsburgh. The first game they won, The Deuce hit another HR in that game. Making it 5-1 on the season then friday night the played a 14 inning marathon which they lost. 5-2 on the season and one of the best starts for the Rox in their history. As I am writing this the Rox are 6-2 on the season after yesterdays win against the Pirates.
On Wenesday during Batting Practice I finally got my first ball of the year at Coors a bouncer of the track hit by the Rockies. Then went on to catch to clean on the fly off the Dodgers. making it three balls for the year. This was only the second time I got 3 and also only the second time I got balls from both the Rockies and the visiting team.
My take on the day the top 2 were from the Dogers the bottom was the first of the year from the Rox.
Thanks for taking a look. Go Rockies. I am the Rox Addict and I will see you at Coors on Friday when the Rockies take on the Chicago Cubs.
Now for the creative shot of the game to show off my made photo skillzs!!!!
and for the first time not in BNW “Roberts Glove”
Opening Day 2011
It was an early start for a 2:10 game left my house at 9:15 to be at breakfast with the Rantics at 10:00. Gates opened at 12:00 so after breakfast we checked out some of the festivities happening on Blake Street. Not to eventful a bunch of radio stations and corporations info farming for free swag. So we headed down to the gates and hung out for about 45 min.
Heading to Coors after breakfast @ the 20th Street Cafe. If I saw this bunch walking down the street I would so cross to the otherside!!!!!Left to right Pete, Robert, “D” The Rockpile Ranter, Geoff, And Doug
On our way we saw this guy rockin the Root Sports Logos on his petty cab. Root Sports made their name known all over Lodo from banners in bars and this guy with handle bars! If you were a Rockies Fan living under a rock yesterday Rocky Mountain FSN is Now Root Sports. Good Luck to our friends on Root Sport you guys do a great job.
The Opening day village located @ the opposite of 20th and Blake from Coors Field.
People Gathering outside the B gate!
So then I headed over to the Rockpile gate which if you read the Rox Addict during the winter I have a photo of me standing in front of to be the first online. So the photographic evidence wasn’t enough to be let to cut the 5 people in front of me so I ended up being 6th. Still not to bad. so after waiting for about 20 min or so the magic works came over the radio that it is 12 o’clock and the gates are now opened followed by the gate usher saying Rockpile gate is open and clear. Here it was after a long-awaited winter Opening day at Coors Field as we entered and received our Rockies Magnetic 2011 Schedule. I ran up the stairs to the main concourse to Head to my spot in the Pavillion for Batting Practice. The Rockies were on the field hitting and the pavilions filled quickly. Next thing I knew people found the need to stand about a foot away from me. Then I started shifting around for the hitters. I came close to a bp ball a few times but by the end I was shut out.

The F16 from the 120th Fighter Squadron
The bullpen staff heading to the Bullpen the Rookie always carries a pink backpack with his equipment in it for the last 2 seasons Matt Daley got to carry it now it is Matt Reynolds turn. at the end of the season all the Minor League call ups get one.
Before the game The Deuce and Cargo both got their Hardware from last season both received their Gold Gloves and Silver Slugger Awards. these 2 can be two of the best players to ever touch a baseball field. Only time could tell that, But they both had great years last year and signed huge multi-year contracts in the off-season. They would have been higher if it wasn’t for the grounds crew member who walks around the logo.
Ubaldo, Chris Iannetta, Bob Apodaca and the roving catching coach head to the field to start the game.
After all the pomp and circumstance it was time to head to my seats and the Rockies took the field behind their ace pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez.
Ubaldo throws first pitch to the D’Backs Willie Bloomquist who grounded out to the Deuce for the first out of the game. With a quick first that Ubaldo saw 4 batters and only threw 7 pitches the game and the season got off to a great start. Then the Rox headed up to bat Fowler lead off witha walk the advanced to 2nd on a WP to Seth Smith. Smith went on to hit a double to score Dex from 2nd. To Score the first run of the season for the Rockies. After a Cargo Ground out to the D’backs 2nd baseman a Tulo walk a Helton sac fly to left scored Smith for the 2nd run. Ty Wiggington hit to short and Tulo was out at 2nd to end the Inning.
Dex dive back to first during Smiths at bat. Dex ended up advancing on a Ian Kennedy wild pitch.
Dex crosses home plate after Smiths 2b
Cargo Grounding out in th first inning.
The Diamondbacks responded in the 2nd with a run. The Rox responded with 1 in the third then the game was uneventful for the next few innings. til the 5th when Helton was called out on a fan interference call on the 3rd baseline. That D’backs outfielder Gerado Parra had no shot on and the fan did try to catch the ball but was a BS call and jim Tracy came out to argue the call. In the Top of the fifth the Diamondsbacks scored 3 on aJustin Upton 3 run HR scoring Kennedy who was walked and Bloomquist who hit a single.the score at that point was 4 to 3 d’backs. Then they went on to score 2 in the 6th.
The Deuce at the plate in the 8th inning the deuce ended up hitting for the gooose. He went 0 for 5 with a walk in the 1st and struck out in the 8th and the 11th as he was swinging for the fences instead of getting on base nobody said he was a clutch hitter just a good hitter mostly at the wrong time, but it is all about the #####’s and he will still hit over .300 with 110+RBI’s and 30 or so Homers.
Matt Lindstrom pitching in the 11th inning
So the game went 11 inning the D’Backs scored off a Matt Lindstrom wild pitch which scored Gerrado Parra from third.
It was a fun day at Coors even with the Rox losing 7-6 to the D’backs and the 2 really bad calls by the Ump’s including the Helton out in the 5th and the Smith catch in Left that was called no catch in the 8th or 9th inning. All and all had a great day hanging out with fellow Rantics and the return of baseball to Colorado for the start of the 2011 season. It can only get better from here. and looking forward to the rest of the season. I am the Rox Addict and now that the season is underway I will see you at the ballpark.
I will be at tonight’s game. root Sports will be giving away a Carlos Gonzalez t-Shirt
Here is the awaited BNW to show off my mad photo skillz!!!!!! Navy guy macking on the merch chick!!!Yes that is the guy from the Honor Guard that s why I chose the Navy Photo instead of the others.
I started the day off at Maryvalle Ballpark. It was a game between the Brewers and the Texas Rangers. Maryvalle ballpark is home of the Milwaukee Brewers. This day the Rockies were scheduled to play the Giants at Scottsdale Stadium, but we chose to head to Maryvalle Ball Park it was Hank Aaron Bobble head day. So we got to the stadium early and the weather was overcast.
So we headed over to the Minor League Fields. The Brewers Triple A and double A teams were playing against the Reds Minor League Teams. So as we were watching players warming up. We noticed a large amount of the Japanese Press standing around waiting for someone, then a cart pulled up with this player.
He is Takashi Saito he is a pitcher for the Brewers. Takashi played 13 years in Japan before coming to the USA in 2005. He has played for the Red Sox, Braves and now the Brewers.
Minor League Catcher reaches for a ball outside during warm ups in the bullpen.
Players Heading to the field
A look into the Reds Dugout. Most of these players are from their Minor league team in Louisville Bats. Also their Double a Team The Carolina Mudcats Located outside of Raliegh,N.C.
Here is the BNW to show off my mad photo skillz. Bat end in fence.
Player operating radar gun behind home plate.
Takashi Saito Pitching in the 4th inning of the game for the Brewers. The Brewers Minor League affiliates are the Triple A Nashville Sound and Double A Huntsville Stars. At this time there are to games going on adjacent fields. After this I headed over to the neighboring field for a few photos.
Runner tries to stop between 2nd and 3rd base.
This is the runner rounding third as the ball was hit to the outfield on the next pitch. So after about an hour watching ball on the back fields it was time to head over to get in line for the Major League game.
Nothing screams Brewers baseball like empty cases of Miller Beer.
Another BNW to Show …. Ahhhh nevermind!!!!!
Handing out the Hank Aaron Bobble Heads inside the gates.
A look from Right field of Maryvalle Stadium. When we got into the stadium the Brewers were taking batting practice so the game was looking very promising. So there was only about 5 min. of batting practice before they wrapped it up and only one ball was hit to the berm and who got it but………
Robert the ball that pretty much landed at his feet on the berm. I thought I had a better chance at catching some baseballs this day since he forgot his glove and I had mine well that did not matter. Now I know the ball magnet is not in his glove!!!
Well after about an hour of rain the game was called off. It was cool talking to a few Rockies fans that were at this game also. So the tix for this game will be good for any Spring Training game for the next 2 years so I got a ticket for a future game. After this game we were suppose to head to Peoria for a Mariners game but figured it would also be rained out. So we figured we would head over to Salt River Fields to see of anything was going on there. We knew their was a game that night but wasn’t sure if it was going to be played. After we figured that the game was going to be played we headed into the Stadium for the game between the Diamondbacks and Dodgers.
A look at the sunset at SRF Before the game.

Another look at Ian Kennedy throwing a pitch.
Andre Either in the on deck circle before his at bat in the 1st. inning
After the first inning I took notice of a very familiar man sitting 10 rows in front of me. So I asked the usher if that is……
….and she answered yes that is Tommy Lasorda.
Dodgers SS makes play at second on D’Backs player Stephen Drew.
So after the third inning we were allowed to go down for autographs. This is Tommy Lasorda signing an autograph for Robert. Then he signed a ball for me as well.
After about another half inning or so he left.
The next photo I really like it is of The Dodger SS making a play in the 2nd inning.
The play ended up being an era as he hit the ground before the throw was made to first.
Clayton Kershaw pitching with runner on 2nd.
Chris Young crosses plate for the D’backs 1st run of the game of a Miranda 1B.
Ex Rockies Utility man Melvin Mora at bat in the 4th inning.
Andre Ether at bat in the 6th inning.
This is him being thrown out at first base.
Kids sliding down the wet grass of the berm.
The final score of the game was the Diamond backs 3 LA Dodgers 0. It was a fun game to watch. It was a fun game to watch not really caring who won or lost and best of all and an event that made the trip well worth it I MET TOMMY LASORDA!!!!!
Watering the back fields after the D’backs game on the Rockies side of the complex.
Once again thanks for checking out the post. Even though I am home there are still post from spring training I will be posting, Still another game and the Diamondbacks side of Salt River Fields. before the Rockies Home Opener on April first and the Public practice at Coors Field on March 31. Have a great Spring training story email me @ Rox_addict@yahoo.com. This is for a future post featuring the readers of the Addict. If you have an opinion on The New Complex let me know what it is would love to hear from you guys.
March 18, 2001 My First game @Salt River Fields @ Talking Stick.
After being on a plane for 2 hour and arriving in Arizona I headed to SRF@TS. The Rockies played the Brewers. When I arrived, I first headed over to the D’backs side to try to snag some BP balls. As I was walking up the last ball of BP was hit over the wall. So I did not get anything. So then I head back to the Rockies side of the complex and they were getting ready for their BP. That was a bust considering you can’t get to many baseballs on the Rockies side due to a fence behind their practice field. Also tried to stay by a roped off area figuring I would get some autographs it turns out the players really don’t pass to close to this area. After the gates had opened I headed in for my first look at SRF@TS . Of course I used the Rockies entrance.

A look in the Rockies Dugout right before the game against the Brewers.
Now it was game time. The starting Pitcher for the Rockies was Gregg Reynolds. The 1st batter for the Brewers was 2nd baseman Reggie Weeks who hit a fly out to Centerfield.
“The Deuce” Troy Tulowitzki field a pop fly from Ryan Braun for the 3rd out of the first inning.
Seth Smith scoring the Rox 1st run in the first inning after a Cargo double.
After the Rockies scored 5 runs in the 1st the Brewers take out starting pitcher Perralta. in #48 Dillard.
So during the pitching change it was time for a brew break. Ok so I did not get a beer from Capt. Earthman. But what great timing for this super hero of adult beverages.
So in the 1st the Rox scored 5 and sent 10 batters to the plate. The brewers did not respond to the 4th inning when they scored their first run when Braun hit a single that scored Reggie Weeks from 2nd. The brewers ended up scoring a bunch.

Rockies Fest 2011 was held Saturday January 22 @ Coors Field. It is a day where the fans realy get to interact and meet Rockies players and Coaches. The event is a a great time of year for baseball fans just when we are realy looking for a baseball fix. We are starting to anticiapate Spring Training and the begining of the new baseball season that is just luming in the near future. This was my second year attending the Rockies Fest. Last year was awsome and couldn’t wait to attend this year that I tried so hard to get tickets that I ended up with 2. Thanks to Robert and Judy. Rockies Fest tickets are only available to Rockies Season ticket holders. So for us non season ticket holders we realy rely on generous Season ticket holders who have extras or can not make it. Thanks again you guys Rock!!!!!!
As I was walking from where I parked. I met up with Doug and Geoff. Who are in this photo with Robert. The bat Geoff was holding is a Willie Taveras bat that was used and cracked by Tulo!!!! He later got the bat autographed by Tulo.

The first thing I had tickets for was the 10:30 Interview Session. In the panel were 2 new members of the Rockies Ty Wiggington and Jose Morales. Also on the panel was Rockies 3rd Baseman Ian Stewart, Relief Pitcher Matt Daley, Bullpen Coach Jim Wright and Infield Coach/3rd Base Coach Rich Dauer. The questions were asked by FSN/Root Sports play by play announcer Drew Goodman and sideline reporter Allana Rizzo.
Jose Morales answering questions during the 10:30 Interview session. Jose was aquired from the The Twins earlier in the off season. He was a back up catcher to Joe Mauer. When asked about what he had learned watching Joe Mauer play he said, The one things was how he justed played everyday and competed everyday.
Rockies Bullpen Coach Jim Wright answering questions during the 10:30 interview session. When he was asked how he was going to keep track of all the Matt’s in the Bullpen he said he would have to work on that one he would have to figure out a FOUR MATT!!!Since their are 4 players named Matt in the bullpen this year. Matt Daley, Matt Lindstrom, Matt Belise & Matt Reynolds. He also said their are 7 realy strong arms in the bullpen an it is a good position to be in, he also is a thrill and honored to work with these players. In this Interview session we were also introduced to new Rockies utility infielder Ty Wiggington, Who was picked up from the Orioles in early in December. He was asked which position he felt most comftable in and he said in the batting order ! He said no matter what position he is playing he has learned to keep it simple a ground balls a ground ball, a fly balls a fly ball. you catch it you throw it.
