Ft. Wayne Tincaps fall to the Lancing Lugnuts. Last game of the 2014 road trip!
8-6-2014
Parkview Field, Ft. Wayne, Indiana
Lansing Lugnuts vs. Ft. Wayne Tincaps
The Lugnuts are a single A affiliate to the Toronto Blue Jays
The Tincaps are a single A affiliate of the San Diego Padres.
They are in the Midwest League.
This is my 15th game of the road trip, 11th stadium and 4th state I have seen baseball in this trip.
This was a day game that started at 12:00 P.M. I have been staying with family in Indianapolis and I had to leave at about 9 A.M. to get to the stadium for the gates I arrived slightly after got my ticket and end up checking out the stadium.
Here is a look at the field from behind home plate.
This stadium was opened in 2009 this was the same year the Tincaps changed their name from the Wizards.
So I took a walk around the stadium, there are many areas with tables that are reserved for groups. This on is in right field.
The stadium did have signs with the history of baseball in Ft. Wayne. These signs I missed the first time around the stadium they are located on the beams by the section stairs. The one shown above is about the AAGPBL, this is the league made famous by the Movie a League of their own. Another signs was for the Colored Giants a Negro League team that played in Ft. Wayne in the 1920’s. There were others about teams that played in the Ft. Wayne though out it’s history.
This what the side of the seats look like at Parkview Field.
Ronald Herrera warming up in the bullpen before his start.
Here he is throwing the first to The Lugnuts Ian Parmley. He made quick work of the Lugnuts in the first inning.
Starlyn Suriel started for the Lugnuts and also had a strong first inning.
Between inning they had a contest to see who can hit the most water balloons. There was 2 contestants one on the 1st base side and one on the 3rd base side.
Both pitchers kept the other team hitless till the 3rd inning when Daniel Klien got a hit in the top of the 3rd for the Lugnuts.
Ian Parmely put down a bunt with 2 outs and reached base on a error by Herrera on the throw to first.
Derrick Loveless hit a comebacker to Herrera.
Herrera could not handle the ball and Klein scored from 3rd base to give the Lugnuts a 1-0 lead.
Suriel continued to dominate the Tincaps batters in the 3rd Nick Shultz hit a ball to Lansings shortstop Dawel Lugo.
This was the second out of the inning. He was not striking out many batters but he was getting the fly outs and ground outs.
Matt Dean dives back to first on a throw over after his 4th inning lead off single.
David Harris hit a single to load the bases in the 4th.
Tincaps right fielder Franmil Reyes make the play on the Harris single.
Justin Atkinson flies out to right field. Harris slides into second on a double steal attempt.
Jason Leblebijian got caught going from 3rd to home on the double steal to end the inning.
Before that the Lugnuts did score a second run to take a 2-0 lead.
I decided to take a walk around the stadium during the next half inning. Here is a look of Suriel pitching to the Tincaps Fernando Perez.
In the bottom of the 5th the Tincaps got their first hit of the game a single by DH Jake Bauer.
Erik Cabrera came into pitch the 6th inning. Starter Ronald Hererra pitched 5 innings giving up 2 runs on 5 hits, walking 1 striking out 3.
The Durham Bulls don’t have the only dancing grounds crew so do the Tincaps!
Niether team had much doing offensively till the 7th inning of this somewhat pitchers duel.
Jason Leblebijian got caught in a run down after a wild pitch or bad throw to 3rd. (did not see what happened)
He scored on a bad throw to the catcher and the Lugnuts scored their 3rd run.
Scott Silerverstein came in to pitch in the 7th inning. Their starter Starlyn Suriel pitched very well for his 6 innings only gave up 1 hit striking out 4 TinCaps batters.
Silverstein pitched 2 three batters and then was removed from the game.
Brady Dragmire came into pitch with runners on 1st and second. He would work out of the inning with no runners scoring and the Lugnuts lead remained 3-0.
David Harris got things going in the 9th with this one out triple to get things going for the Lugnuts in the 9th.
Daniel Klein put down a bunt in the 9th with runners on 1st and third.
Harris scored from 3rd to give the Lugnuts their 4th run of the game.Klein was safe at 1st.
The Lugnuts would pick up 3 more runs 2 on a double by Derrick Loveless, Loveless would score on a ball hit by Mitch Nay and the Ludnuts had a 7-0 lead.
Nays hit was hit to shortstop Trea Turner and Fernando Perez missed the ball at 1st.
Phil Kish pitched for the Lugnuts in the bottom of the 9th.
He retired all 3 Tincaps batters and the game was over with the Lugnuts winning 7-0.
So that is it for this game, I like this stadium it was really nice. It had some baseball history which was cool and had a good layout. The only thing I had a problem with was parking which was kinda confusing. I was only able to find parking lots for the stadium that requires passes there was alittle lot for $5.00 and another lot that was free, I was not unsure if it was O.K. to park there. When I got my ticket I asked the attendant and she said she was not sure nobody said anything!
So that is also it for this trip this was my last game. I was suppose to go to Dayton for a Dragons game on Thursday and messed up they were on the road and actually needed to go to Dayton instead of Ft. Wayne this day. Because Ft. Wayne is home all week.
So that is it for the Road Trip once again I would like to thank everyone who helps make these trips possible my Family and friends that let me stay at their house’s go to games with me, get tickets and deal with the crazy schedule I create to get to games along the way. It was awesome to see friends on the road this year Dan, Mark, Jared and Andy in Detroit. I will be heading back to Denver in a few days. I would also like to thank everyone who checks out this blog during my baseball adventures.
so that is it I will see you back at Coors next week.
