The Rockies Rockin Against The Phillies!

Phillies vs. Rockies
Game 2
My 39th of the year at Coors.
I came directly from work and made it to the stadium about 20 minutes before 1st pitch I heard the batting practice was really good once again!
Here is starting pitcher Tyler Chatwood heading out from the bull-pen with the starting pitcher entourage! Wilin Rosario, Pitching Coach Jim Wright and Jerry Weinstein. I take this photo almost every game I go to, but this group always has the best ones. Very animated and lively with a lot of interaction.
Tyler Chatwood throwing the first pitch to the Phillies Ben Revere. Now over this weekend I met and sat by a lot of Phillies fans and most of them have been complaining about this guy. He doesn’t hit home runs! Well he is the leadoff man. Another he is never on base well the three game I have seen him play he hit a bunch of single not to be a spoiler for my own post but he went 3 for 5 this game. Not what they were saying about him must be Coors!!!! Another did say has never hit a home run and well he still has not. I thought everyone hit home runs at Coors! Oooh wait the Phillies haven’t hit any this series yet. Yes, this is sarcasm having to do with that conversation everybody always has about Coors Field and why we hit well which I had with a Phillies fan this weekend.
Ben Rever diving back to first base after his first inning single. He did go on and steal second and advanced to third on a error and scored. I would say he did his job. It would have saved time if he just hit the home run! What does everyone think their leadoff man is like Dexter Fowler.
Carlos Gonzalez Throwing the Ryan Howard hit ball to left.
Wilin Rosario grabbing the ball and tagging out Michael Young at home.
The Phillies scored 1 run in the first and avoided a 2nd on a great throw by Cargo.
Jonathan Pettibone was the starting pitcher for the Phillies. After Josh Rutledge popped out to first for the first out of the inning the Rockies got all over Pettibone.
So the second batter of the game Jordan Pacheco hit a single.
Followed by a Cargo double.
Scoring Pacheco. Pacheco making the turn at third before scoring the Rockies first run of the game/inning.
The next batter Michael Cuddyer hit a single. Scoring Cargo. (2-1) Rox
Rosario hit a triple, here he is after sliding into third base.
Tyler Colvin than sent one Opposite field for his third home run since his return to the Rockies. (5-1) Rox
Tyco and Rosario after Tycos 2 run home run.
The Rockies were not done just yet Nolan Arenado hit a single he did get out at second on a D.J. LeMahieu single.
D.J. then stole second base.
He scored on a Tyler Chatwood single. Chatwood has to be one of the best hitting pitchers in the game currently. If he is not he has to be pretty close to it. He is batting.438 (7 for 16) with 5 RBI’s.
Chatwood advanced to third on a really bad throw showed by a really bad photo!
The ball got passed third base man Michael Young and Lemahieu scored as the ball rolled. So he did not really score on the Chatwood single it was on the bad play after it!
Here is what happened: Chatwood grounded to Ryan Howard who throw home D.J. turned back to third and Catcher Umberto Quintero over threw 3rd. D.J. scored Chatwood moved to 3rd.
The Rockies score 6 in the first with great hitting by most of the lineup in this inning. They did have 10 batters in the inning. Rutledge ended the inning lining out to second.
It was visit Rapid City Day at Coors when we arrived they gave us poster with Dante Bichette, Andre Galarraga, Todd Helton and Vinny Castillia on them, looking like Mt. Rushmore. The other side had a photo of the real Mt. Rushmore. Then they had the president from the Rapid City South Dakota State tourism there as well they were giving way trips to Rapid City.
The Phillies did pick up a run in the 2nd. On a Ben Revere single scoring Umberto Quintero from 1st. The Rockies did not score in the second (6-2) Rox
Rosario followed his first inning triple with a 3rd inning double and again doubled in the 4th. Scoring in both innings. The Rockies only scored one in the 3rd. but it got us tacos (7-2) Rox
Chatwood hit another single in the 4th once again contributing to the offence.
Chatwood beating the throw from Jimmy Rollins to Ryan Howard for the single! (10-2) Rox
The pitchers continued to contribute offensively in the 6th when Adam Ottavino got on base on an error. He ended up on second. He would remain there as Josh Rutledge struck out for the second time in this game and his fifth time not getting on base. He ended up 0 for 6 on the day. The pitchers were 3 for 3 with a sac bunt!
Ryan Howard striking out to end the game. The Rockies won this one 10-5. The Phillies got 3 runs in the 8th off Chris Volstad.
Well That is it for this one. The Rockies tie the series with the Phillies at 1 apiece. Got one more game from this series to go and It was a great one. A Phillie Phinally hits a homer.
Also looks like the first stop on my road trip will be in St. Louis!
Remember to follow me the whole trip on twitter @roxaddict.
Now with the presidents theme they made the players look like presidents. Here are the photos they had on the board during their at bats!

Nationals vs. Rockies
Game 3
My 37th game at Coors this year.
This was a day game so there was no batting practice but usually an opportunity to get a few autographs. To start EB and I decided to get to the stadium early to try to get Davey Johnson’s autograph I wanted it because he was the Manager of the 1986 Mets and EB wanted it because he has a collection of manager signed baseballs. Shortly after we arrived Davey Johnson arrived and there were only 3 of use there and he stopped to sign. I had him sign his book “The Bats” then asked him if he would also sign a ball for me and he did. It was awesome that he was cool and di the 2 for me. Jason Werth also signed and I had him sign a card for me. He was really cool while he signed and talked about various thing we were talking to him about one the really cool ring he was wearing which looked like a finger on a knight’s armor. Other Nationals also stopped that I either did not have anything for or did not know who he was. after being out there for 2 1/2 hours we headed into Coors. We waited by the Rockies wall to see if any pitchers would sign and a few did. Including catcher Yorvit Torrealba who just grabbed a chair from the photo pit and started signing.
Before he signed he di a little work with catching coach Jerry Weinstein.
Here they are talking about throwing.
Rafael Betancourt was out throwing and when I asked him how his leg was he said good and seemed to be throwing well.
After being at the stadium almost 5 hours it was time for the game. Jeff Francis was the starter for the Rockies. After his last start he really needed a good start and the first inning was about as good as you could get, Denard Span the lead off batter for the Nationals grounded out and then Francis struck out Jeff Kobernus and Ryan Zimmerman.
The Rockies Dexter Fowler got things going quickly in the bottom of the inning, hitting a double to right.
Jason Werth playing it off the wall.
Dex heading to second.
Right after the double the injuries started. With Dex on second and Jordan Pacheco batting Carlos Gonzalez was struck by a foul ball in the foot.
Here he is being attended to by the training staff. He was taken out of the game and replaced by Tyler Colvin. Pacheco grounded out and Tyler hit a single scoring Dex.
Tulo struck out.
Here he is walking away from home as the umpire gives the out. Michael Cuddyer would line out to second to end the inning.
With 2 out in the 2nd Ian Desmond got the Nationals first hit of the game. He or Anthony Rendon who also hit a single would score. The Nationals would score 2 in the 3rd on a Zimmerman 2 run home run with Ross Detwiler on base. (2-1) Nats.
In the 3rd the injury bug struck again when Dex got hit in the hand on a bunt attempt on a ball thrown inside.
It was a 93 MPH fastball off his right index finger.
Here is a photo of his wrapped finger after the game at Jackson’s. Photo is from Gary X. Dex is listed as day-to-day. After this happened he did take the field for the 4th but came out of the game after that.
D.J. LeMahieu slides into second after a 4th inning double. The Rockies scored 2 runs before this hit. (3-2) Rox
The first was scored on a Michael Cuddyer triple scoring troy Tulowitzki. Cuddy scored on a Wilin Rosario ground out to short.
Wilin Rosario at the plate with Davey Johnson and other members of the Nationals coaching staff in the background in the 6th inning.
Nationals pitching coach comes out to talk to Greg Stamen who replaced Detwiler in the 6th inning.
Things got really interesting in the 7th when Wilton Lopez can]me into pitch for the Rockies in the 7th. After Ian Desmond started the inning with a single he would move to second on a balk. He would than score on a second balk to Steve Lombardozzi scoring Desmond to tie the game at 3. Wilton than argued the call and was ejected and then Jim Wright was also ejected while still in the dugout for arguing the balk calls. It also looked like Dante Bichette also had words with the umpire but was not ejected from the game. I tried to get photos of this happening down the wall towards the dugout but some dumbass sitting a section over felt the need to turn towards my camera and make faces for me to take a photo of him and his friend, yes while this was going on. He got mad when I told him to get out-of-the-way and I was not taking his photo. Some people have no F’n clue sometimes.
The National would take a lead in the 8th inning Roger Bernadina hit a double and would score on a Zimmerman double.
The safe call at second on the Bernadina double.
Ryan Zimmerman at the plate in the 8th inning.
Jason Werth running to first in the 8th he did ground out to short but thought this was a good shot of him.
In the 8th Troy Tulowitzki suffered the third Rockies injury in the 8th after diving for a Ian Desmond hit ball to him. The Nats scored 2 to take a 5-3 lead.
Add a U to this scoring symbol and it explains most of this game for the Rockies!
Kurt Suzuki grounded to second to end the 8th inning.
The Rockies did a lot of juggling in the field in the 9th inning.
Here are the changes in positions from the Rockies game day! it is easier than trying to explain it!
Defensive switch from left field to shortstop for Jonathan Herrera.
-
- Defensive switch from first base to left field for Jordan Pacheco.
-
- Yorvit Torrealba remains in the game as the first baseman.
-
- Pitching Change: Rex Brothers replaces Matt Belisle, batting 9th.

- The Rockies would score a run in the 9th on a Todd Helton pinch hit single scoring Nolan Arenado for the Rockies 4th run of the game. That was their final run and the game would end in the Nationals favor. It was a crazy and bizarre game for the Rockies losing 3 players to injury and a few really weird balk calls that resulted in the tying run giving the Nationals a better opportunity to set up a win. Dex and Cargo are listed day-to-day and Tulo will be out 6 weeks or so with a broken rip. Just would not be a season with out Tulo being out for an extended amount of time!
- In the mix of injury and stupid things happening to relief pitchers Jeff Francis did have a good start pitching 6 innings, striking out 8 and giving up only 2 runs on 5 hits. 1 hit and the 2 runs were on the Ryan Zimmerman 2nd inning home run.
- Since I am behind a few days I do know Cargo was back in the line up the next day and Dex was used to pinch run. So that is it for this series that the nationals won 2 of 3 and next is the Phillies this weekend.
- See You At Coors.
Rockies vs Nationals Game 2, The Pitching Duel Kinda!
6-12-2013
Nationals vs. Rockies
Think I finally got the correct amount of games this was my 36th game of the year! Yes have not missed a home game! So I have been off a few games on my count. That would be 38 including the Springs.
Jorge De La Rosa started for the Rockies He faced 3 batters in the 1st. Denard Span lined out to Helton at first. Jeff Kobernus hit a single he got caught stealing and Ryan Zimmerman struck out.
Ross Ohlendorf and his late 1800/early 1900 wind up started for the Nationals. He has a wind up that he swings both his arms before bring his hands above his head and than throwing the pitch.
Here are a few photos of his wind up.
It is a very different pitching motion these days for pitchers. Watching him pitch looked like something you would see in old grainy newsreels!
The Rockies only got 1 hit off of him 1 hit and only 2 base runners in the first 5 innings. Jonny Herrera got a single in the 1st and Nolan Arenado walked in the 5th.
The nationals took the lead in the 4th Ryan Zimmerman walked to start the inning and scored on a Ian Desmond single. Desmond would make the third out of the inning by being picked off between first and second. Yorvit Torrealba threw to Todd Helton at first to Herrera at second for the out.
The Rockies would get there run in 6th. Carlos Gonzalez hit a 20ut triple and scored Jonny Herrera. The Nationals did score 3 in the top half of the inning The Nationals lead was 4-1.
Jorge pitch till the 6th inning and Adam Ottavino came in to pitch. Jorge was responsible for 2 of the runs and Ottavino for 1. Chris Volstad came in and pitched the 8th inning for the Rockies he let up a run also. Volstad was called up from Colorado Springs earlier this day. room for him on the roster was made by the Release of fan favorite and great guy Eric Young Jr. it sucks that he was released but he has not been having that great of a season and others have been more productive of the bench. He had a few bad plays in the outfield and did not hit well as a pinch hitter this year. He was always really great with the fans and will be missed at Coors. Hope nothing but the best for him and hope he gets picked up soon.
Todd Helton runs to 1st after Jhonatan Solano dropped a third strike ball to end the game not much in this somewhat of a pitchers duel between the Rockies and Nationals. The Rockies had trouble getting batters on base in this O.K. start for Jorge. He did pitch well till the 6th and did strike out 5 Nationals. in his 5.1 innings. he gave up 3 runs and 4 hits. Not a bad start but the bats failed to give him run support. Stinks to see a good pitching out fall apart and he was not backed up by the offence. well that is it for this short post. Got another one in this series and the Phillies are at Coors this weekend.
See You at Coors!

Washington Nationals vs. Colorado Rockies
Thinking 34 games!
Before this game I was working in the Superior Area and noticed this on my way to the stadium. I noticed that it was in the Rocky Mountain Park Area not knowing that this was not the biggest fire that was started this day. The Fire in the Black forest area was a lot worse being in a more developed area of the state. Hope everything is well and gets better for the people in the effected areas.
This is the first time I ever got all the team things on the board, had to use it!
Jhoulys Chacin started the game for the Rockies the Nationals did get 2 base runners on in the inning, but did not score on a Ryan Zimmerman double and Jayson Werth walked.
Here is Denard Span the first batter running to first, he hit it to Todd at First for the out. Zimmerman’s double was with 2 outs.
Nolan Arenado hit a double in the Rockies first as well and was also left on base he was the Rockies only runner in the first for them. Carlos Gonzalez and Troy Tulowitzki both struck out in the inning.
Dan Haren was the starting pitcher for the Nationals.
Today we decided to wonder a little during the game. Here is a photo of Jhoulys from slightly to the third base side of home plate.
The Nationals would score 2 in the 3rd inning. Ian Desmond lead the inning off with a walk he would get out at third for the force on a Kurt Suzuki hit. Denard Span hit a double scoring Anthony Rendon and Suzuki. (2-0) Nats
Andy LaRoche on first in the 3rd inning with Todd Helton holding him at first and Jhoulys Pitching.
Helton hitting a ball which he was out on a ground ball to second base with Tulo running from first.
Jayson Werth sliding past second in the 5th inning.
Got some photos from above the bullpen when I was out by right field. Wilton lope stretching.
Matt Belisle also stretching.
Manny Corpas warms up.
The Rockies did not score till the 5th inning but when they did the runs kept coming in true Rockies style. The first 2 were on a Tyler Colvin home run his first since being called back up. Wilin Rosario was on base after walking to start the inning.
Carlos Gonzalez got in the act with a three run home run of his own, his 18th of the season. (5-2) Rox
Here he is after crossing the plate with Dexter Fowler and Jordan Pacheco on base.
Troy Tulowitzki hitting a single in the 5th. He would be left on base after Wilin Rosario flew out on his second at bat of the inning. 10 batters came to the plate in the inning.
Jhoulys Chacin was taken out of the game after 5 innings and was replaced in the 6th with Manny Corpas after Manny batted for himself in the 6th Josh Outman came into to pitch in the 7th. Above is Outman throwing in the 7th.
Josh Outman seemed to be hurt, he seemed to have landed on the mound wrong or something. He took a few throws and left in the game.
Outman was later removed from the game and Wilton Lopez came into finish the inning.
This is the first time I have photographed Wilton from this angle and never noticed how high is leg lift was. Usually I am further down the first base line.
The National score a third run in the 8th inning on a Ian Desmond double, Jayson Werth scored from first after he walked to get on base. (5-1) Rox
Rob Scahill pitched the 9th inning for the Rockies. The Rockies had a 5 run lead after scoring 3 in the 8th. Tyler Colvin would hit his second home run of the game another 2 run shot, scoring himself and Rosario again. Arenado scored D.J. LeMahieu when he hit into a double play to make the score 8-3. The best part was that Scahill took the mound with a 5 run lead and it stayed that way unlike the other night when he gave up a bunch of runs and the bull pen slightly imploded. The bull pen did a great job of keeping the Rokies in the game and Jhoulys had a good start. He did only go 5 innings but only gave up the 2 runs on 7 hits walking and striking out 2. so he had some runners and held them on base for the most part.
Tyler Colvin high fiving his teammates after the win. He was the player of the game after his 2 home runs for 4 of the 8 runs scored by the Rockies. good to see has come back strong and hopefully will keep up the good hitting. He did actually strike out twice also but we will let him slide this time on that if he strikes out 2 time and goes 0-4 or something it maybe an issue but with 2 homers it’s O.K.!!
Well that is it for this one the Rockies won the first game of the series.
2 more left in this series and I was there so check back for the photos from those to games. Some crazy stuff happing this series at Coors.
See You There!!!
Dex Walkin it off!

Padres vs. Rockies
Game 4.
This could be my 34th game of the year it is a good possibility!
It being Sunday it means it was autograph Sunday. The best part was we did not have to get there extra early because of the bobble heads there was no bobble head today. This means I can also get more than one player!
The signers today was Michael Cuddyer who is in the Photo above. Matt Belise, Manny Corpas and Tyler Colvin. So started out in Matt Belise’s line because I had a photo of him that I printed up a few weeks ago. After getting that signed I headed to Manny Corpas’ line since he was just called up I needed him on my team 16×20 which I now only need Tulo on! since it was not a bobble head day the lines were not crazy and I was able to hit the trifecta getting Tyler Colvin as well I got him on a Cubs team card he was on and the last card I had left for him to sign he has recently been called up also but I did not need him on my 16×20 because I had him sign it at spring training. I did not think that he was going to the Springs! I did not get Michael Cuddyer to sign anything because I really did not have anything for him since he has signed well for the fans in the past and he was already on the 16×20.
Juan Nicasio was the starting pitcher for the Rockies he would sit the Padres down in order in the 1st Evereth Cabrera started by grounding out to Todd Helton at first. Alexi Amarista struck out and Jedd Gyorko flew out to Carlos Gonzalez.
Clayton Richards was the starting pitcher for the Padres Dexter Fowler started off with a single and was sac bunt over to second by Eric Young Jr. Carlos Gonzalez popped out for the second out of the inning.
Troy Tulowitzki came through with a home run to give the Rockies a 2-0 lead.
Here he is watching it fly into the tunnel in left field.
Dexter Fowler picking up Tulo’s bat as he crosses the plate.
Would this be considered a five-lo!
This one with Dex while blowing a bubble.
The Rockies would not score again till the 3rd inning when Dexter lead off with a double and scored on a Cargo ground out to second base. He got to third on a Eric Young Jr. sac bunt once again. (4-0) Rox
In the top of the 6th I noticed something was happening here!
Juan Nicasio was perfect through 5 innings. No Runs or walks!
Not lasting long Nick Hundley took that away with the swing of the bat with a 2-2 count sending the ball and the perfect game into the pavilions. That would be 1 run for the Padres and they scored a second before the end of the inning. (4-2) Rox
The Padres would score 3 in the 7th and 2 in the 8th. They would take a 7-4 lead this is another game that should not have gotten away from them. Cameron Maybin hit a home run for the first run of the 7th off Edgmer Escolona who came in to pitch the inning. The next 2 runs were scored on a Mark Kotsay home run scoring himself and Headley still in the 7th. (5-4) Padres Edmer was taken out of the game because of injury. Wilton Lopez would finish the inning. Matt Belise came in and pitched the 8th for the Rockies. The 2 runs scored by the Padres were a result of a few hits strung together Kyle Blanks hit a single and was scored by Will Venerable who scored on a Denorfia single. (7-4) Padres
Cameron Maybin was limping a little after a Tulo GRDB in the 8th inning. Tulo would not score another runner left in scoring position. He got on base with one out and could not get past third.
The Rockies tied the game at 7th in the 9th. Tyler Colvin hit a single scoring Jonny Herrera and a Carlos Gonzalez double score Tyler and Dex. (7-7)
The game than went to the 10th the Padres failed to score and the Rockies need to act on this opportunity. Todd Helton started the inning off with a walk in a sac bunt attempt Yorvit Torrealba struck out on the foul bunt. Jonny Herrera hits a single to move Todd to second.
Jonny would get out at second on a Colvin hit to first.
Dex after reaching first base kneeling and clapping
Dex being interviewed after the game.
This is another game that should not have gotten away from the Rockies. I think this should have been a easier series for them than they made it. The Padres really made them work for their wins. It is great that they did battle back to win Fridays and this game, but both should have been pretty much over when the Padres came back to take the lead or tie the game. There once again was a lot of lost opportunities to score runs and get out of the defensive side of the innings.
Well That is it for this game and the series.
The Nationals are in town Tues thru Thurs.
See You at Coors!
Francis is just a shadow of former self.

Padres vs. Rockies Game 3
My according to posts this is my 33rd game of the year. Still need to really figure this out!
This game was a nationally televised game on Fox. It was also Military Appreciation day. so the Rockies worn special Camo caps. Here are a few of the guys in the special hats.
Jordan Pacheco
Troy Tulowitzki
So I have noticed that some players don’t leave the field until The Colors are taken off the field or are pretty close to leaving the field Michael Cuddyer is known for doing this. This is Matt Belise waiting after the National Anthem.
As you can see he is the only one still standing as everyone else gets ready for the game.
Jim Wright along with Wilin Rosario and Jeff Francis head in from the bullpen. Jerry Weinstein was also with them but off to the right. As he went by he tossed out a few baseballs and he threw one to Jared who missed it I was able to retrieve the ball from the warning track with my camera lens by knocking it back to the wall and grabbing it! I did give the ball to Tanya who was with use at the wall.
Here is Jeff Francis throwing the first pitch to the Padres Chris Denorfia. The Padres got a run in the inning on a Chase Headley base hit to right scoring Evereth Cabrera from second. Cabrera walked to get on base and stole 2nd for his 27th stolen base of the year.
The Rockies did not score in the 1st and the Padres and Rockies did not score in the 2nd. The Rockies tied the game in the 3rd. Dexter Fowler single and moved over to third on a Eric Young Jr. single. he scored the run in the inning on a throwing error by the catcher Yasmani Grandal to second on the play Carlos Gonzalez struck out and EYJ stole second and Dex went home on the error.
Cameron Maybin dives back to 1st after walking to get on base in the 4th. Kyle Blanks started the inning for the Padres with a home run to take a 2-1 lead.
Maybin stole second during Grandal’s at bat. He would score on a Evereth Cabrera double scoring Maybin and Denorfia. (4-2) Padres
Francis did not pitch terribly in the game but he created a lot of traffic and ran a high pitch count. Throwing 93 pitches in just 4 inning. That is over 23 pitches and inning averaged out. The 4th inning he pitched I believe over 30 pitches.
Adam Ottavino came into pitch the 5th and 6th inning. He pitched well giving up 3 hits but no runs.
Manny Corpas pitched the 7th and 8th for the Rockies he struck out 3 and gave up 1 hit and 0 runs. Once again the bullpen kept the Rockies in the game after the starter gave up runs.
Tyler Colvin came into in a double switch in the 7th inning. Batting 9th for the pitches spot. in his first at bat since being called up from the Colorado Springs Sky Sox he grounded out but did score the Rockies 2nd run of the game. D.J. LeMahieu scored from third he hit a triple to get on base.
D.J. sliding into 3rd.
During the 9th inning there was an awesome sunset happening over the mountains here is the photo I got of it I would normally head to the upper deck for sunset photos but since it was the bottom of the 9th in a close game I did not want to take my attention away from the field.
As the sun was setting and the Rockies Jonny Herrera tried to get things going with a lead off single and Nolan Arenado walked.
D.J. LeMahieu set down a sacrifice bunt to advance them both. Now with runners in scoring position and only one out things were looking good for the Rockies a base hit would tie the game. Tyler Colvin would come up for his second at bat since being called up and he would line out to second base and was not able to advance the runners.
With 2 outs and the runners still at 2nd and third Dexter Fowler came to the plate. This is a roll he is usually very good in runners on and the game on the line. He also could tie the game with a single. Now over the years I have seen him tie the game and hit many walk off hits. Unfortunately that did not happen this night he would strike out swinging and the game would be over. This wasn’t that bad of a game as far as pitching Francis could have pitched better and reduced a lot of traffic and pitched more efficiently. He did get him out of situations and the score could have been a lot worse. On the offensive side there were many missed opportunities the last inning was a prime example of that but in the game the Rockies were 0 for 15 with runners in scoring position(RISP). They left 8 runners on base. The Padres starter came in the game with almost a 4 ERA and we only scored 2 against him and he stayed in the game for 7 innings. The bullpen held this game together for 5 innings and have really kept the Rockies in many games this year excluding the game on Friday. This will only last so long because you can’t over use them to carry the game for more innings than your starter. I would be great to see Francis and all our starters go 7 inning like Stultz did and so many other pitchers that the Rockies face. Even when they are pitching well they get removed in the 6th.
Well that is it for this one. Got another from the weekend to get done before the Nationals are in town Tues. Wens. and Thurs.
See You at Coors.

Padres vs. Rockies
Game 2
Sometime in the near future I have to figure out how many games this is for me this year! I am thinking 33 or so.
After being delayed in getting into the stadium on Thursday everything worked fine at the gate and I immediately headed to the pavilions. The Rockies were hitting and a few balls were hit out, with the group that was hitting when we arrived. Shortly after the second group started hitting. A few batters into the group we noticed that Rockies special assistant to the GM was taking batting practice. After a few go rounds he showed he still had it sending baseball into the seats of the Pavilions. So I watch where he was hitting and set my self up to snag this rarity and I guessed right and one of his last homeruns were hit directly to my waiting glove! It is always cool to catch a ball but that it was a hit by Vinny was even cooler.
Jorge De LA Rosa was the starting pitcher for the Rockies this game. After Chris Denorfia grounded out to Troy Tulowitzki, Evereth Cabrera hit a single to right field. During Chase Headleys at bat he would be caught stealing second base. Headley would go on and pop out to D.J. LeMahieu at second to end the inning for the Padres.
Dexter Fowler started the 1st off with a triple to his Padres doppelganger Cameron Maybin, his 2nd triple of the season. He would get tagged out between 3rd and home on a Eric Young Jr. bunt down the 3rd baseline.
Eric Young Jr. would advance to second on the play.
Tulo would hit a single to score EYJ and send Carlos Gonzalez who walked to get on base to second.
Tulo and Cargo scored on a ToddFather Todd Helton double, his 4th of the year and his 574th of his career. This now has him tied with HOF Charlie Gehringer on the all time doubles list at #20. 4 more to tie Wade Boggs at 19th all time. Todd is keeping some good company on his life time lists.
The Padres scored 2 in the 2nd inning on a Kyle Blanks 2 run home run scoring Jedd Gyorko. Gyorko got on base with a 1 out single. (3-2) Rox
The Rockies did not let the 1 run difference hold for long they went on a 2nd inning hitting spree started with a 1 out single by Jorge De La Rosa. Dexter Fowler hit a bunt single to move Jorge to 2nd. Jorge would get out on at third on a EYJ hit back to Padres pitcher Edison Volquez. Cargo hit a triple to right to score Dexter and EYJ. (5-2) Rox
Todd hit a single scoring Cargo from third.
Nolan Arenado hit a single scoring Tulo who was hit by a pitch before Todd hit his single. The above is a photo with Todd at third and Nolan on first while Volquez pitches to D.J. LeMahieu. D.J. would walk to fill the bases and Yorvit Torrealba would score Todd from third. that was 5 runs in the 2nd and a 8-2 lead for the Rockies.
D.J. LeMahieu at bat in the 2nd inning.
The Padres picked up 1 run in the 3rd. (8-3) Rockies
After Cargo hit his 2nd triple of the game scoring Dexter the Padres Bud Black took Volquez out of the game. Dex led the inning off with a single.
The Rockies would have a 9-3 lead
Tyson Ross would come into pitch for the Padres and get them out of the inning. He would pitch through the 5th inning.
Todd watches one go by during his at bat in the 3rd inning.
In the 4th inning Jared and I headed out to the pavilions to check out the Rock Social event. Took a few shots during the trip out there here is Ross squaring to bunt he would end up striking out on a bunt foul.
Todd grabbed the foul ball but Ross was already out.
Jorge pitch 5 innings for the Rockies I am not sure why they took him out I wasn’t fully paying attention after we got to the pavilions we met up with EB, James from 5280 Shirt Shop and a few others. I thought it may have been because of pitch count but now that I checked he was only at 88 pitches which is not that high for 5 innings and probably enough to go at least 1 more. The Padres did lessen the lead scoring one in the 5th the Rockies still had a 5 run lead. (9-4) Rox
Edgmer Escolona pitched the 6th inning for the Rockies Yasmani Grandal started the inning with a single but was left on base. Edgmer struck out the next 2 batters Will Venable and Chris Denorfia. Evereth Cabrera grounded out in the to D.J. LeMahieu at second to end the inning.
Rob Scahill would come out to pitch in the 7th. inning. I may have left Edgmer in after pitching well in the 6th. He threw 19 pitches in the 6th. Edgmer and Rob Scahill are both righties with Chase Headley who could switch hit, Jedd Gyorko and Carlos Quinton batting both righties. The inning started with Headley being hit bay a pitch followed by a Quentin hitting a home run followed by a Gyorko home run which quickly lessened the Rockies lead. (9-7) Rox.
Scahill was taken out of the game after allowing a single to Kyle Blanks who scored on a Cameron Maybin single.
Jonny Herrera came into the game to play left in a double switch that did not change places in the batting order.
The Padres did tie the game at 9 in the 7th inning. Wilton Lopez would finish the the 7th for the Rockies and Matt Belise pitched the 8th and 9th. Belise struck out 2 and did not allow a single runner.
Nolan Arenado was the first batter and last batter of the 9th for the Rockies, he hit a third pitch solo home run to end the game with the Rockies 10-9 win.
Nolan running the bases as the team runs from dugout and gathers at home.
Nolan approaching home.
and the pile up ensues!!!
The Rockies won this one in dramatic fashion with Air-enado sending one out, but it was a game that should of not really gotten a way from them this game was some what sealed with a good lead in the 6th. This is Coors and there really is no safe lead but it also their home field and this is the Padres who have been playing better lately, but I don’t fully agree with the switch in the 7th inning. Well with that this is it for this game 2 more against the Padres left in this series and it is now tied 1-1.
I was at both and as I try to catch up with the off day I will be posting more on the games against the Padres.

See You At Coors!
The Big Cat was missing his bat!
6-2-2013
Dodgers vs. Rockies
Andres Galarraga Bobble Head day
Like usual we arrived at the stadium really early to get on line for the bobble heads and autograph. Not as much for the bobble heads but to have good positioning in line for autographs. Like always a few minutes before the gates opened they let you know who or who may be signing. I got a text from someone at the stadium saying that the Big Cat may be signing. This would of been great since none of the other players who have had bobble heads have signed on there bobble head day. After we got in we found out that he was not signing and the signers were D.J. LeMahieu,Eric Young Jr., Edgmer Escolona and rob Scahill. So that was great I needed D.J. on my team project and had a photo for Escolona so I had mom take 16×20 to D.J. and I got on Edgmers line which was also the line that was rumored to be where Andres Galarraga would be signing if he did. Which gave me the versatility I would need if it was him. So I got Edgmer to sign a print of a photo I had either taken this year or last in spring training.
As we waited for the signers to come out which is over a half hour I have been taking out the bobble heads and taking a photo of them on the wall with the field behind them. As I took it out of the box I noticed the bat was missing so I asked the usher working the line if I could go get a new one and she let me so I headed back to the gate and they immediately helped me and handed me a new one. So that is the one in the photo.
Eric Young Jr’s line
D.J. LeMahieu taking a ball to sign.
Always get a smile from EYJ when he signs for you!
After autographs were done we noticed lights set up in front of the Rockies dugout and it was for a photo that Andres Galarraga would take with on the Venezuelan players on the Rockies current roster. The players in the photo were Carlos Gonzalez, Edgmer Escolona, Jonny Herrera, Jhoulys Chacin and Rafael Betancourt.
Here is what it looked like! This photo is courtesy of the Colorado Rockies twitter @Rockies. An a very rare photo not taken by me on this blog!
Here is Jonny Herrera signing autographs. That is actually my photo he is signing, Thanks to John for running it over to him for me. It was a pretty good day for autographs I got Edgmer, Jonny and Tyler Chatwood each on an 8×10 and D.J. on my team 16×20. Tyler stopped and signed after the pitchers warmed up while we were on line for the autograph Sunday autographs.
Michael Cuddyer during the National Anthem. I have taken it before but it is always a favorite of mine with the flag his stance and attention to the color guard.
Andres Galarraga waving as he is announce to throw out the first pitch.
Here he is throwing the pitch did really well from the mound.
He throw to fellow Venezuelan Carlos Gonzalez.
Here is Jorge De La Rosa taking the mound before his start.
Jorge throwing the first pitch of the game to the Dodgers Nick Punto.
Another pitch during the first at bat of Jorge. Been experimenting with the ne toy the last few games!
Punto grounded out to 3rd for the first out. Juan Uribe would fly out, Jorge would walk Adrian Gonzalez and than strike out Scott Van Slyke to end the inning.
here is a look at Cargo in left field. with the Vote for CarGo sign in the background.
Jonny Herrera at Short giving the base coverage sign to D.J. LeMahieu at second base.
Dexter Fowler wasted no time to keep his momentum rolling from Saturday nights walk off. With this first pitch home run that Andre Either could only watch as it hit the second fence in the Rockies bull pen. So in 2 at bats and only 2 pitches Dexter has won a game and took the lead in a second game. Not bad Don’t forget to vote for Dex when filling out those All-Start ballots. The Rockies scored a second run also, D.J. LeMahieu walked stole second advanced to third on a throwing error and scored on a Michael Cuddyer sac fly to center field. 2-0 Rockies
The Dodgers did not let the Rockies to hold the lead for long they scored 2 of there own in the 2nd. inning. Andre Either singled to get on base and so did Luis Cruz. They would both score on this Skip Shumaker double that he tried to stretch into a triple and was tagged out by Nolan Arenado. That is just a case of no one read the scouting report that said Cargo has an above average arm and running to third is stupid if the ball is in left field. I think the squirrel that was on his baseball card a few years ago know that! Well he got 2 RBI’s I guess the out is kinda irrelevant.
Todd helton showed that he still had his bat in the 4th when the next run of the game was scored on his lead off home run. Here he is crossing the plate and slapping Arenado five after the homer. This run gave the Rockies a 3-2 lead. The Rockies went on to score an additional run in the inning Herrera scored after being walked on a LeMahieu single. (4-0) Rockies
Matt Magil pitching in the 4th inning. he remained in the game through the 6th inning which meant another Rockies run in the 5th and 6th. In the 5th it was a homerun to Michael Cuddyer with Jorge on base and in the 6th it was Dexter Fowlers second home run of the game also a lead off home run.
Adam Ottavino came in to pitch the 8th and 9th innings for the Rockies. Jorge pitched a very good 7 innings, he let up only 2 runs, 6 hits, walking 2 and striking out 5. He also threw 94 pitches in 7 innings which is very good. Ottavino finished the game with out letting a Dodger on base. He said take that Dodgers for leaving Brooklyn! he struck out 4 and I think he should be called Brookkkklyn!
After Magil was taken out Matt Guerier pitched the 7th for the Dodgers and Peter Moylan pitched the 8th.
Wilin Rosario getting excited after the Andre Either strike out in the 9th to end the game.
The Baby Bull and Brookkkklyn with the fist bump after the 7-2 win in this one and the 2nd win taking the series from the Dodgers.
With Dexter’s 2 home runs he was the player of the game.
remember to Vote for dex and all the Rockies for the All-Star game. Here is a link you can vote up to 25 times online a day!

The only thing that would of made this game better would have been Tom Helmer jumping on the desk for the post game show! Once again with Joel leaving roots sports we are trying to bring back Helmer if you agree let roots sports know that you want him back. Either on Facebook, twitter or there website.
Bring Back Helmer.
That is it for this series and home stand the Rockies return after a short road trip to play the Reds on Thursday.
See You at Coors!
Photo Day 2013 and some free baseball in this rollercoaster of a game!

Ophilia and Wilin Rosario
Rex Brothers
Rob Scahill
Batting Coach Dante Bichette
During a lull between groups of player I took this Michael Cuddyer inspired photo.
A view from center field from a very low angle on the center field warning track.
It was than time for the game. So we left the field and headed to the seats. We did see if anyone would sign today and I did not get any autographs. I not sure if anyone did sign.
Jhoulys Chacin was the starting pitcher for the Rockies.
The Dodgers Carl Crawford started the game off with double.
Chacin got Mark Ellis grounded to Todd Helton at first.
Adrian Gonzalez hit a single to get on base but was doubled up on a Andre Either hit to Tulo who tagged 2nd and threw over to first for the double play.
Zack Greinke was the starting pitcher for the Dodgers. He sat the Rockies down in order in the first.
Chacin had a very good second inning only facing 3 batters his self.
Michael Cuddyer started off the 2nd with a single and was moved over to 3rd on a Todd Helton single.
Michael Cuddyer did score on a Nolan Arrenado double. Yorvit Torrealba walked and Jhoulys took a swing to hit into a double play.
Getting Yorvit out at second…
… and himself out at first to end the inning.
The Dodgers picked up 3 runs in the 3rd inning. Tim Fedorowicz lead the inning with a home run (first of his career). Zach Greinke hit a single followed up by a Carl Crawford double he was removed from the game with a hamstring pull. Scott Van Slyke replaced him as a pinch runner and stayed in the game in left. The other 2 runs were score by Greinke on a Adrian Gonzalez sac fly. and Van Slyke on a Jerry Hairston single and Mark Ellis was out at first. (3-1) Dodgers
After both Dexter and D.J. LeMahieu both struck out Carlos Gonzalez hit a triple and was left on base.
There was no scoring till the 5th when Cargo hit a home run that was caught by Dan. The Rockies scored 3 runs in the inning 2 were on the Cargo home run the first was Torrealba on a Dex single. (4-3) Rox
The Dodgers picked up 2 runs in the 6th inning. The runs were scored on a very good small ball inning with singles by Schumaker and Punto. They scored on a Tim Federowicz double ( also his first of career). After a ball was hit back to Zach Greinke that was off the dirt it was close and looked like it was caught. (5-4) Dodgers. Don Mattingly came out and argued the call and than was thrown out by first base umpire Brian Night. He was arguing with the home plate umpire when this happened, he than went on and yelled at Night for a few more minutes.
The Dodgers went on and scored 1 run in the 7th (6-4) Dodgers
Michael Cuddyer hit a 2 run home run in the bottom of the 7th to tie the game at 6.
Cuddy high-fiving the Bat boy.
Jay Howell the 4th Dodger pitcher of the game on the mound in the 8th inning. Greinke pitched 5 and 1/3 innings allowing 9 hits and 4 runs.
Jhoulys Chacin would pitch 6 innings, he allowed 9 hits and 5 runs. He was replaced by Josh Outman in the 7th.
Todd Helton striking out in the 10th.
Howell being taken out of the game in the 10th inning by dodgers bench coach Trey Hilman who took over the team in the 6th when Mattingly was ejected.
Yorvit Torrealba hitting his 10th inning single.
Wilin Rosario legging out this single hit to Nick Punto at short in the 10th inning. He hit in the pitchers spot.
Dex swinging at the first pitch of the at bat, to left for a single scoring Yorvit.
Another walk of hit for Dexter Fowler.
Yorvit crosses home after the Dex hit for the Rockies 7-6 win over the Dodgers to tie this series at 1 game a piece.
Everyone piling on to Dex who is somewhere in the pile of people at first. Not sure what Matt Belise was doing but it looked like he was punching someone after he got the win with this run!
So after a few lead changes the Rockies came out on top taking this one from the Dodgers.
That is it for this one there is one more from this series against the Dodgers with a special Appearance by The Big Cat!
See You at Coors.
Garland started strong than things went wrong.
5-31-2013
Dodgers vs. Rockies
Got a tele converter figured I would try something different! The Tele doubles the lens size = Closure to the action!
Here is one of my favorites from before the game. As Wilin Rosario and Jon Garland were heading in from the bull pen.
Jon Garland throwing first pitch to Mark Ellis. He got all three batters to ground out for the first inning and the second. Things looked to be turning round for him since some really bad starts recently.
Adrian Gonzalez hitting the ball in the first.
D.J. LeMahieu throwing to Jordan Pacheco at First for the final out in the first out.
Clayton Kershaw was the starter for the Dodgers. Eric Young Jr. led the game by being walked by Kershaw.
Eric Young Jr. at first base. He would get out at second in the inning when Dexter Fowler hit line drive to short and EYJ did not get back to first.
Nolan Arenado makes a throw to first to get Ramon Hernandez out at first in the 2nd inning.
Skip Shumaker tosses the bat after making contact and it was fielded by D.J. LeMahieu who threw to first for the out and the end of the 2nd inning.
Jon Garland got roughed up in the 3rd after a good 1st and 2nd inning. He started the inning by hitting Jose Cruz which was followed by a Juan Uribe double. Uribe scored on a Mark Ellis single, Ellis would also score on a Adrian Gonzalez single. Ramon Hernandez ended the inning by hitting a double play.
Cruz not so smoothly sliding into home for the dodgers first run in the 3rd inning. The Dodgers score 2 runs in the 4th inning as well Scott Van Slyke started the 4th with a double and would later score the first run of the inning. Juan Uribe scored also. (5-0) Dodgers
Dexter Fowler getting things started in the 4th for the Rockies with a 1 out single. Dex and Tulo both scored in the inning. (5-2)Dodgers
Yorvit Torrealba not happy with a pop out in the 6th inning to short when he pinched hit for Garland.
It was another great sunset night at Coors this is a look from the lower concourse. I than headed up to the third level.
He is that view. I went up a little late but still not bad.
EYJ making contact in the 7th inning. Chipped up the bat a little bit. He did ground out to short to end that inning.
In the 8th inning Tulo would get a single on this pitch in the 8th inning with Dex on base, Dex moved to third on the hit and would score a few batters later when Wilin Rosario would hit into a double play.
Clayton Kershaw was taken out after the Tulo single.
Kenley Jansen would come into the game. Kershaw threw 100 pitches, allowed 3 run on 8 hits striking out 5 and walking 2. Jon Garland pitched 5 for the Rockie giving up 5 runs on 7 hits, striking out 1 and walking 3.
Yorvit walking of after Adrian Gonzalez struck out in the 8th. the Rockies got a run in the 8th Dex would lead off again with a single and score. (5-3) Dodgers. Wilton Lopez pitched the 8th for the Rockies and pitched well. only facing 3 batters and struck out Uribe.
Todd Helton came into pinch hit in the 9th in the pitchers spot and with this swing hit his 358th home run of his career and 4th of the season to tie the game at 5.
It was defiantly a watch and admire home run as hit was hit to the second deck in right.
Todd runs to first after hitting the homerun. and the BNW to show off the mad photo skillz.
Todd high fives D.J. who was on base when Todd hit the home run.
Rafael Betancourt pitched the 10th for the Rockies and it was not his best appearance. He faced 6 batters and the Dodgers scored 2 runs.
Carl Crawford came into the game to pinch run for Ramon Hernandez who lead off the inning with a single. Crawford would be the Dodgers first run of the inning.
The Final score was 7-5 as the Rockies slide continues that is the 4th lose this week to a team with a bad record. They are now 28-27 this season and are 2.5 games behind the Diamondbacks in the west and in 3rd place 1 behind the Giants.
Well that is it for this rollercoaster of a game there are 2 more left in this series a Saturday day. It is also photo day which is always a good time.
See You at Coors.
